Virginia Beach Fire Dept Training Photos : On Sunday April 20, 2008 I had the opportunity to photograph some of Virginia Beach's Finest. First off I would like to thank District Chief Wade, and the rest of the Chiefs and Officers for allowing me access to the training that was being given. The training was being held at the old Lord & Taylor building in the Lynnhaven Mall. Firefighters trained in search and rescue as well as RIT (rapid intervention team) training. The trainers strategically placed 175 pound dummy's throughout the structure with PASS alarms activated to simulate a downed firefighter. The Engine and Ladder teams had to maneuver throughout the structure to find the downed firefighter and drag them to safety.

MVA with entrapment Newton NJ 3/28/07 : On March 28th at approx 2000 hrs the Newton Fire and First Aid squad, and Fredon FD were dispatched to route 94 in front of the Newton Memorial Hospital for a single car MVA with the driver being entrapped.

As EMT's assessed the drivers condition, the FD was setting up the Jaws-of-life to assist in removing the driver from the vehicle. The drivers side door was able to be forced open without the Jaws being put to work and the driver was extricated.

Newton First Aid treated the patient and transported him to the hospital landing pad where Atlantic Air 1 was waiting for patient contact. It was later deemed that the patients injuries were not serious enough for a flight to the trauma center and was transported via ambulance.

Assisting on the call was the Fredon Fire Police, who shut down Route 94 between West End Ave and Anderson Hill Road, so emergency crews were able to work safely on the scene.

No other injuries were reported and the accident is under investigation by the Newton Police Department.
